New Beginnings

Thanks to you, Stephani
found recovery and hope

“If somebody wants to change their life and
they’re willing to put their best foot forward,
this program absolutely can change their life
around without a doubt.” — Stephani

Stephani arrived at our doors during the pandemic, struggling with drug addiction and the trauma of domestic abuse. She was at rock bottom and in desperate need of a life-saving intervention. As we talked, she told us about her challenges, “I was in an abusive marriage, and I went to the hospital with broken bones. I was prescribed prescription pain pills. Within a few months, I was fully addicted, and when I couldn’t get a prescription, I turned to heroin.”

Stephani’s journey from homelessness to recovery wasn’t easy. But thanks to supporters like you, she was given an amazing chance to choose a new path.

At Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, Stephani received the treatment, guidance, and resources she needed to change her life. But those first few days were difficult. “The staff cared so much.” She told us, “That’s part of the reason why I stayed. Because the first day, I was ready to walk out the door, and they just took so much time to sit and talk to me and let me know that’s not the answer. A lot of the staff are recovering addicts themselves, and they showed me I could have a better life.”

Through prayer and hard work, she successfully graduated from our Victory program. She also discovered renewed faith because of her time at the Mission. “I see that God has forgiven me and has turned my life completely around and made me brand new just like He said He would.”

A second chance at life!

Today, Stephani is excited about the next chapter of her life. She is finally reunited with her children after five long years apart. She told us, “My life completely changed. I’m almost two years sober and clean. I want to go to school for nursing, and I’m taking real estate classes. My daughter is almost done with her first year of college, and my son is a senior. We’re back together as a family and loving that.”

Stephani’s story is just one example of the powerful impact you have on the lives of our community’s most vulnerable neighbors. With your support, we can empower more people like Stephani to overcome life’s challenges, heal, and embrace God’s path for a new life.

A MESSAGE
FROM THE CEO

Chad Audi, PhD
President and CEO

Dear Friend,

As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your generosity and compassion. Your support enables us to provide vital services and life-transforming resources to neighbors in need, and we are so grateful for your partnership in God’s work.

During this time of year, I am reminded of the importance of giving thanks and how much of a blessing it is to spend the holidays with loved ones. Sadly, not everyone will be able to enjoy a day among friends and family this year or a festive meal. As the need in our community continues to grow because of skyrocketing inflation, many of our neighbors may be alone, hungry, and facing uncertainty on Detroit’s streets.

That’s why we are preparing to serve as many meals as possible this Thanksgiving. I hope you will stand alongside us to bring food and comfort to our neighbors so they can have a reason to give thanks, too. Not only are families and individuals experiencing the pain of homelessness, many of them are also dealing with the challenges of addiction, anxiety, and depression.

But I believe every person who comes to our doors deserves a second chance at a good life. With your help, that journey can begin with a hot, home-cooked Thanksgiving meal.

Friend, God has a plan for every lost soul who comes to our doors, and I believe you are part of that plan. Will you help us provide Christian care, shelter, and hot meals this Thanksgiving season? Thank you again and God bless you!

Rebuilding Detroit, one life at a time,

Adopt a Family
for Christmas!

We are gearing up for our 2023 Adopt-A-Family initiative in order to make the holidays brighter for struggling neighbors!

Last year, through the generosity of donors like you, we were able to help over 300 families in Detroit and sponsor over 2,000 children and sponsor over 2,000 children and adults who received Christmas gifts during the holidays! This year, we are hoping to bless even more families

in Detroit, and we need your help. Due to inflation and the high cost of living, many of our neighbors don’t have the means to give their families a Christmas celebration. That’s why any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated and will ease the burden for families experiencing hardship. Please consider joining us to share love and kindness in time for Christmas!

To sponsor a child or a family, please contact Kisha Woods- Mathis at [email protected] or call 313-993-4700 x3930 by October 15, 2023.

Giving Detroit’s
homeless new hope

60 years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his inspiring I Have a Dream speech for the first time in Detroit. His lifetransforming words were on our hearts on Saturday, June 24th, as we attended the 60th Anniversary Freedom Walk and Rally given in commemoration of Dr. King’s 1963 walk in Detroit.

Today, his message still touches hearts and ignites hope in people who hear his words.

Our friends at Kroger—who also attended as a community partner for the event—made the day extra special for our city’s homeless neighbors. They generously presented Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries with a $31,300 donation. Kroger chose our Mission as part of their Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative, and we are excited to put it to good use this holiday season on behalf of every man, woman, and child who comes to our doors.

Send a holiday gift today at drmm.org.
